Condor asked to vacate constituency office

The Hon. Sam Condor’s old constituency office

    No move until compensated...Condor says

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - PARLIAMENTARY REPRESENTATIVE for Constituency Number Three, the Hon. Sam T. Condor has reported that he was asked to vacate the constituency office which he had occupied for a number of decades. And while declaring that he has no problem doing so, he said that would not take place before he is “properly compensated”.

Speaking with this media house, Condor explained that the office sits on a piece of land that belongs to Captain Val Morris and, sometime last year, he received a lawyer’s letter requesting that he gives up use of the property.

He explained that while the land belongs to Captain Morris, “the building, the fence and all the concrete slabs in the yard and all the fixtures and fittings and furniture...everything in there is mine. Everything there on the property and in the property belongs to me...”

The former Deputy Prime Minister said he replied to Captain Morris’ lawyer via his lawyer and explained that while he is prepared to move, he would need some time to “make arrangement to what is going to happen to the properties that are there”.

He said after asking four individuals to evaluate the property, he got two statements; a comprehensive one which amounted to $180 000 and another which amounted to $100 000.

Condor said both he and Morris were to have come to a decision as to whether he would be sold the land or Morris would compensate him for his property, a decision for which has yet to be made.

He also said that in recent times “they came up there and said that they want me to move because they gonna do some repairs on the building so that Konris could move in. And so I protested. I told them that will not happen. I will not allow that to happen unless they compensate me for what I have there”.

SKNVibes contacted Constituency Number Three representative for the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Konris Maynard, who indicated that he is not the appropriate person to whom this publication should speak and advised that Captain Morris be contacted.

When contacted however, Captain Morris said he does not wish to speak on the matter.

Asked about an alternative office, Condor informed that he has secured a space - not too far from the current office - to house his constituency office and is in the process of fitting it with a number of amenities and fixtures.

In his explanation for compensation, Condor indicated that it is because of the monies used, which he “personally” raised over a period of time, to invest in the office.

“I intend to move but not before I am properly compensated. They are making the case that the funds that I used to invest there were given to the Labour Party. Nothing could be further from the truth! Maybe people give the Labour Party funds, but I didn’t get any of those funds. Those were funds that I raised personally.”

The former Deputy Prime Minister had resigned from the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party-led Government on January 30, 2013 and has since joined with sacked former Senior Minister Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris to form the People’s Labour Party.
