Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 18th, 2014 - “There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.” If this holds true, past and present students of the Lawrence School of Music, along with their tutor, all have healthy hearts.

Each year, under the tutelage of Lady Hulda Lawrence students religiously practice a wide variety of musical pieces, learn songs written and composed by Lady Lawrence; all for the purpose of staging their Pianoforte Concert, to packed venues year after year.  The funds generated from the disciplined effort are given to charitable organisations within the community to further their work.

Toda,y the money raised from the 32nd Annual Pianoforte Concert, were given to representatives of two organizations, namely: The St. Johnston Methodist Church and the Pediatric Assistance League of St. Kitts (PALS).

In a brief handing over ceremony Lady Lawrence in her opening remarks said, “ I am pleased to handover a check for $10,000 to the Johnston Methodist Church and $1,000 to PALS.  It is gratifying to know that we were able to give to the Church and to efforts to relieve the pain of sick children. I must say thank you to the guardians of the students and the general public who attend our concerts yearly. “

When asked to comment on the kind deed of the Lawrence School of Music,  Rev Joyce Rohan, Superintendent of the Methodist Church on St. Kitts relayed, “… this is just fantastic to think kind gestures like this still occur in spite of the economic hardships. The Pianoforte Concert is training our youth to know that they ought to give.  We look forward to more youth organizations doing the same.”

Giselle Mathews, President of PALS, shared, “I was taken aback by Lady Lawrence’s phone call offering to make a donation to PALS.  This is a wonderful case of children helping children whose families can’t afford health care overseas. We are indeed eternally grateful.”

The 33rd Pianoforte Concert of the Lawrence School of Music will be held in July 2014.  This is another chance to support a charitable recipient of the funds to be raised.
