BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE National Association of Administrative Professionals (NAAP) held the 28th Installation Ceremony of its Board of Directors on Friday (Feb. 20) at the Manhattan Gardens under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil Douglas.
The Installation was held under the theme “Connecting you with the right opportunity” and featured a keynote address by Dr. Wycherley Gumbs.
The distinguished Reverend spoke about “the immense possibilities of success” and encouraged persons to open their eyes to “the tsunami of change” that was sweeping across the region.
After his address, the NAAP’s 208-2010 Executive was formally inducted and the ceremony concluded with a brief cocktail reception.
In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, NAAP President Cyndie Demming revealed that the organisation was a grouping of male and female office professionals founded in 1981 to facilitate networking, idea-sharing and skill development among the nation’s secretaries.
She expounded upon the evolution of the association, from its initial origins as the National Association of Secretaries to the National Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals, to its current status as the NAAP.
“We are no longer merely secretaries; we now have managers involved in recruitment, negotiation, communications specialists and marketing, et cetera.
“The purpose of the association is threefold; that is, educational, professional and civic advancement. We train our members so they can be the best qualified administrative professionals. We also do community work and partner with businesses to train their staff,” Demming said.
She stated that the Executive’s Programme Theme for 2008-2010 was “If opportunity does not knock...build a door”. According to Demming, the theme was envisioned to encourage members to contribute more to the association.
“If you feel as though you’re not getting anything out of your membership, then bring something. This would enhance the capabilities and knowledge of the organisation’s members,” she noted.
The NAAP has an office on Princes’ Street above BEC Auto Parts. Office professionals interested in becoming members of the association can contact Demming at 662-4281.
