Chief Executive Officer, Nevis Tourism Authority, Ms. Helen Kidd |
Charlestown Nevis (August 24, 2005) With the Tourism Season for 2005 having come to an end, Chief Executive Officer of the Nevis Tourism Authority, Ms. Helen Kidd commented that the island has seen a remarkable improvement during this season.
She recently made the comment while up dating the Nevis Television on Cable Channel 8 on the 2005 tourism season. She said that, although the tourism season slows down around April of each year, she was delighted to announce that the small hotels on the island were busy until the end of July 2005.
A few of our small hotels close purely and simply for renovation during the slow season and get ready and gear up for the businesses coming in December, said Kidd.
The Chief Executive Officer pointed out that the up coming tourism season is expected to be slightly different and that the authority is planning for an early start of the season.
Instead of the season beginning on December 15, what we are trying to do, is to bring that forward a little bit and try and create businesses for around October, she noted.
Kidd attributed that to the fact that the authority is in the process of having a culinary food event on the island. This event, which is expected to run during the period October 22nd to 29th 2005, will be centred on the art of culinary.
It is going to be a food event and it is called NICHE, explained Kidd. The byline we are using for this is in Nevis great food is our niche. If you actually break that down, what it means is the Nevis International Culinary Heritage Exposition (NICHE).
What we are trying to do is to attract people who are passionate about food to visit Nevis; learn what it is we grow here and at the same time sort of bring up their culinary skills.
Ms Kidd also announced that one of New Yorks expert chefs in culinary arts, will join the local experts in culinary art who will be participating in a number of cooking demonstrations during the week of events.
A package, which is expected to be on sale includes entrance to a cocktail party at the beginning of the week, five cooking demonstrations followed by a luncheon, five individual dinners throughout the island at various hotels that are participating in the programme and a special cocktail party and dinner ending the week of events.
