BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A recent operation conducted by members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force led to the removal of two illegal firearms from the streets of the Federation.

A police press release issued yesterday (Feb. 23), informs that the officers executed an island-wide stop and search exercise on Saturday last (Feb. 21), which saw 22 people and one vehicle being searched for illegal substances, firearms and ammunition.

One of the persons searched, Justin Morris of Mansion, was found in possession of a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and 18 rounds of matching ammunition. Consequently, the man was arrested and charged with “illegal possession of firearm” and “illegal possession of ammunition”.

Other searches resulted in the officers finding a Glock 40 caliber semi-automatic pistol along with 52 rounds of ammunition. The items were taken into police custody but no one was held answerable for the offences.

The police force is reporting that the recent finds bring to nine the number of illegal firearms removed from the Federation’s streets, along with in excess of 400 rounds of ammunition for the year; two more than the figure for the same period last year.

Meanwhile, on the same day, police officers attached to the Tabernacle Police Station and members of the District ‘B’ Crime Response Unit were busy executing “drug eradication exercises” in the Tabernacle area.

The operations resulted in the officers finding 300 marijuana plants growing on a vacant plot of land. The plants, which range in height from seedlings to three feet, were removed and taken into police custody but no one was arrested or charged with the offence.

Investigations into all occurrences are under investigations.
