    COURT CONVICTIONS

Despite reports of persons being sentenced to serve jail time as comeuppance for their crimes, others still seem to be taking their changes with breaking the law and are finding themselves behind bars.

Wilkin Lorenzo Dias, a native of the Dominican Republic who resides at Craddock Road, Nevis, appeared before one of the Federation’s Magistrate courts on two counts of “larceny” and was sentenced to six months imprisonment on each count. The sentences are to run consecutively.

Also, by order of the court, after he would have completed serving his sentence, Dias is to be deported to his native land.

For his part in a “building breaking and larceny” offence which was committed on January 19, 2009, a 16-year-old of the Basseterre area was sentenced to serve six months at Her Majesty’s Prison.

A 14-year-old, who was found to be “beyond care and control”, was taken before the District “A” Magistrate’s Court in Basseterre and had a number of strict restrictions placed on him.

He is to attend counselling, observe a 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew, refrain from being found in the company of undesirables and not to be found in the Half Way Tree area.

Because of his conviction of “building breaking and larceny”, a Newtown 14-year-old was placed on a two-year probationary period in the sum of $1 500. By order of the court, the juvenile is to observe a 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew for a three-month period and is not to be found in the company of undesirables.
