BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH the Federation set to host Group Six of the Caribbean Cup in September, it is expected to be a boost for the twin-island Federation.

This is according to President of the St. Kitts -Nevis Football Association Anthony Johnson, who was speaking with SKNVibes Sports today (May 1) at the launching of the CONCACAF Coaching Programme at Football House.

He revealed that hosting the Caribbean Premier Football Tournament would provide an opportunity for players to feel a sense of pride while playing in their home territory.

Johnson declared that it would be a great opportunity for the association to give the players much needed exposure to regional football.

“I think that it would be a great boost because it would provide the opportunity for our players to get the exposure not just on the local scene but on the regional stage as well, and with a view of reaching to the Gold Cup 2015; and also with a view for obtaining for our players professional opportunities,” Johnson said.

He added that it would provide an opportunity for the local football population to view international matches in their backyard being played at a very high standard.

Johnson posited that it would also bring economic benefit to the Federation with visitors accompanying the football teams.

“It would support the local economy because you have teams coming to St. Kitts along with our team, which makes it four. You would have a number of persons travelling with those teams and the tourism sector will benefit. And we see it as a win, win situation across the board.”

Hosting of this leg of the Caribbean Cup is all part of the association’s strategic plan, the President revealed.

Group Six of the Caribbean Cup with see St. Kitts lock horns with Guyana, St. Lucia and Dominica from September 1-9. The top two from this group will qualify for the second round of the competition.
