Hon. Nigel Alexis Carty
Minister for Education
Government Headquarters
St. Kitts
Honourable Minister,
May 2nd, 2014 -- The National Executive and members of the Dominica Association of Teachers stand in solidarity with our colleagues of the St. Kitts Teachers' Union on the Basseterre High School environmental issue.
It is our view that this situation should have been long resolved. Environmental health issues should be dealt with expeditiously. Minister Carty, we know that you are quite aware that these issues cannot resolve themselves. They have to be resolved.
In reference to pertinent International Conventions, Health and Safety is the prerogative of every individual. It is a fundamental human right, not a privilege. The teachers and students present predicament needs your decisive action and that of your fellow Ministers. The health and safety of the school locale has to be secured and upheld. The life of no one should be compromised. Delayed action can be very costly in terms of the human person.
It is our wish that the Basseterre High School issue is brought to a healthy closure in the not too distant future.
We thank you for your attention.
Yours respectfully
Mrs. Celia Nicholas
