BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A fire of unknown origin earlier this afternoon (May 4) destroyed an abandon house at Westbourne Ghaut and scorching another in its vicinity.
According to an eyewitness, smoke was seen emitting from the house around 2:00 p.m. and on investigating observed that it was on fire.
The source further told SKNVibes that the fire was rapidly developing and had scorched a neighbouring building, but quick reaction by members of the Basseterre Division of the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Department prevented what could have been a disaster to residents within that area.
The St. Kitts Electricity Company had also responded and one employee was seen disconnecting the live wire from the building.
Unconfirmed reports indicated that the house is an abandoned one, but a number of persons are regularly seen within the property.
