BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ONE week after being involved in a traffic accident in his home village, an elderly man succumbed to his injuries at the Joseph N France General Hospital.
Commander of District ‘B’, Superintendent Cromwell Henry told SKNVibes that the deceased is Joseph Hercules of Mansion Village.
He informed that the accident occurred in Mansion on April 29 and had involved a fire tender of the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services Department.
The fire tender - according to Superintendent Henry - was travelling in the direction of Cayon from Tabernacle and Hercules was attempting to exit a street (on the seaside of the road) onto the Island Main Road in his jeep when the two vehicles collided.
SKNVibes understands that the fire tender was responding to a report of a fire in the Molyneaux area and was travelling with its siren on.
The Superintendent explained that a unit from the Emergency Medical Services had transported Hercules to the Joseph N. France General Hospital, where he was warded in the Intensive Care Unit.
Hercules however succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday (May 6) and two days after an autopsy was performed on his body, which revealed that he died of thoracic trauma due to traffic accident.
Investigations are currently being made by officers attached to the Tabernacle Police Station.
Joseph Hercules is the Federation’s fifth road fatality to have taken place for the year.
