BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – OVER the past two months or more, many of LIME’s Internet customers have been experiencing significant slowdown and timeout during peak hours usage, especially in the evenings and on weekends.

This publication understands that the problem originated from the upgrading process that the service provider has undertaken, which should be completed sometime this week.

The problem is not a small one, for many business establishments, including SKNVibes, have lost much-needed revenue by being unable to speedily transact business such as the posting of advertisements by not being able to access the relevant servers and pages.

However, according to Kevin Edwards, LIME’s Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager, the problem would soon be solved as the Internet upgrades should be completed sometime during this week.

Speaking Thursday (May 8) on WINN FM’s weekly LIME Time Programme, Edwards declared that most customers would have already seen their Internet speeds return to a level of normalcy.

“Particular customers may have not been in the areas that have upgraded. Because the congestion has been alleviated to that point, you should start seeing much greater improvement in your accessing speed,” WINN FM quoted Edwards as saying.

He indicated that more than 50 percent of the network has so far been upgraded, but explained that there are some customers who are still experiencing a drastic slowdown in speeds because they are owners of the older modems.

To this end, Edwards declared that LIME would be replacing those modems free of cost.

The Corporate Communications Manager explained that under the new upgraded platform, the older modems are a cause for concern because they are loading pages a lot slower.

“There have been some difficulties that have been experienced by some customers, even though they have already been upgraded. What we have identified is some of the older modems that customers may have had, the Paradyme and Netopia modems, they are loading pages a lot slower under this new upgraded platform that we have. In particular, what we are noticing with these older modems, if you are taking up to a minute or more to access a page, that’s a cause for concern. That is a red flag!”

He is advising customers to call Customer Service at 466-4357 and log whatever fault they are experiencing so that the company would “be able to advise and move from there”.
