Basseterre, St. Kitts (May 12, 2014) – After weeks of preparation and late night rehearsals, Junika Berry was honoured with the title of Winner of the Digicel Haynes-Smith Caribbean Talented Pageant on December 29, 2012. Since then, Junika’s life has been a catapult of academic and personal successes, including being a Brand Ambassador for her favourite telecoms provider, Digicel St. Kitts and Nevis Limited.
Symbolic of a Kittitian teenager, like a flower opening in full bloom, Junika’s face can be seen on billboards, public transport buses and on local television stations, advertising for Digicel. The Marketing Team at Digicel saw it fit to engage Junika in their schedule of promotional campaigns including the Launch of the 1st islandwide 4G network, the “Face of the Phone” for the Digicel DL series and as host of Promotional draws on live television.
Digicel Marketing Manager, Marsha Chatterjee remarked “Junika’s performance at the Talented Teen Pageant was truly extraordinary! After the show, Junika visited us at the Head Office to say a personal thank you and her personality was just as vibrant and warm. We knew we had to have her on our Promotions Team as an excellent example of a young person who is not only beautiful on the outside, but someone who is also intelligent, courteous, focused and not afraid of hard work.”
Junika sat down with her Digicel Family last week to share what life has been like since signing as Brand Ambassador:
• How do you feel being re-signed as an advocate for Digicel?
“Having the opportunity to be a Digicel Ambassador once again feels absolutely phenomenal! Since being asked to represent Digicel my life has truly been a whirlwind of fantastic emotions. The Digicel staff treats me like family and I surely do love them for that”.
• What are some of the professional experiences that you have gained since being a part of the Digicel Family?
“Being a part to the Digicel Family has without a doubt enticed various business opportunities and introduced new experiences. Fortunately, I was given the opportunity to work part time at the Digicel Store in the Circus, which has been extremely beneficial for me in every aspect. Plus, it allows me to save for my future educational endeavors”.
• Are you aiming to enter any future pageants?
“I have absolutely adored pageantry for as long as I can remember. However, in relations to entering any future pageants, I’m just waiting to see what the future holds”.
• Academically, what are you pursuing and what are you hoping to accomplish in the short to mid-term future?
Currently, I am undertaking various business courses at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College. I hope to further my education in the business field. Although, I don't have a specific plan, I do know that I want to stay in this field - in an environment where I feel as though I'm playing a meaningful role in my society.
• Digicel has partnered with Project Voila for the month of May, which aims to assist teenaged moms. What is your view on female students whose formal education is halted during education?
“Being a parent, at any age, can be a life-altering experience especially if the person is a child themselves. Sadly, due to unfortunate circumstance, lack of knowledge or even misjudgment teenage pregnancy is prominent universally. However, this should not hinder or deter anyone’s passion or drive from getting a formal education. Neither should the opportunity be taken away from those individuals because of their current circumstance. Education is key, and everyone should be given a fair chance to attain it”.
