Huge Energetic Crowd At Tabernacle Listening Tour

Press Release (TUCOM)

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, May 16th, 2014  --  A huge and energetic crowd turned out to the 3rd in the series of Listening Tours put on by Team Unity, on Thursday 15th May at Tabernacle. It was a campaign style atmosphere and the crowd exerted great energy, enthusiasm and merriment. Three candidates made presentations, Hon Eugene Hamilton, Hon Sam Condor and Dr the Hon Timothy Harris. They were all eloquent and the crowd loved them and what they had to say.

Hon Eugene Hamilton described Dr Harris as an excellent performer. He hailed Dr Harris’ excellent work on behalf of the people of number 7 in the areas of employment generation, housing and land distribution and community infrastructure. He outlined how the former sugar workers were robbed of $16 million in severance payment and how the illegitimate Douglas cabal failed to provide serious opportunities for former sugar workers to make a sustainable living. He outlined the elements of a Sugar Workers Holding Company and how such a company could have contributed to wealth generation by former sugar workers.

Hon Sam Condor tackled the serial breaches in good governance by Douglas, the systematic undermining of the professional core of the civil service and the destabilizing consequences of the politicization of the civil service. Condor called for change and commended the people for their strong support for Dr Harris.

The man of the moment and Parliamentary Representative was Team Unity’s Leader, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris. He was shown appreciation from his constituents who in spite of their partisan party allegiance have been overwhelming in their work and support for him.

Dr Harris addressed the ideas for bringing relief to the people. He reminded them of Team Unity’s pledges namely: 1.VAT removal from food, medicine and funeral expenses 2. Reduction in mortgages 3. Electricity bills 4. Affordable prices for lands and homes 5. Jobs for the young etc.

He spoke to the need for sustainable economy growth and people’s empowerment. He identified the entertainment industry as an attractive yet unexplored area for our young people to put their creative energies to profitable engagement. He longed for the day when the Music Festival would be about profiling and promoting local talent rather than importing talent.

An active interactive question and answer period allowed the audience to get answers on immigration, Team Unity’s programme for senior citizens, land for debt swap, Mary Charles Hospital, the Police Station in Tabernacle, the role of the Union and Labour Department and the areas of immediate relief under a Team Unity government.

The event was superbly chaired by Eustace Maynard. Singing sensation, Natasha Depusoir dedicated a song “God Send an Angel” to Team Unity and Venetta Glasford invoked God’s blessings.
