SKNIS Photo: Participants at the Community Resource Mapping Workshop for the PANCAP/CYA administered Mini-Grants Programme

Basseterre, St. Kitts (August 25, 2005):
Deputy Regional Coordinator for the PAN Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP), Mr. Edward Emmanuel said youths involved in a workshop being held locally are showing high levels of interest and concern as they develop a mechanism for resource mapping.

The youth element of the PANCAP programme referred to as the Mini-Grants Project, got off to an enthusiastic start on Wednesday with representatives between the ages of 15-24, the programmes target group.

Mr. Emmanuel explained that regional representatives; two each from St. Vincent and Grenada as well as two resource persons from St. Lucia are also participating in the sessions.

The resource persons were involved in similar exercises in St. Lucia and are able to share some of their expertise and provide guidance while the Vincentians are  also taking the opportunity to learn valuable lessons in mapping.

It is the hope that participants from the Federation will also travel to other Caribbean territories to share what their newly gained skills, and become better acquainted with the process as they are challenged to observe and address situations in other islands.

Workshop participants are actively involved in field work which includes going out into the community to collect data and information which will serve as the basis for developing the local project proposal.
