Sugar Girlz lose to Bermuda in Final encounter

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE St. Kitts and Nevis Women’s Football team last evening (May 27) lost 3-1 to their counterparts from Bermuda in Group Three’s final game of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Cup played in Turks and Caicos.

     

    According to reports from Bernews, the Bermudans performed outstandingly in their 3-I victory over the girls from St. Kitts and Nevis to advance to the next round of the Women’s Caribbean Cup.

    St. Kitts and Nevis was placed in Group Three, matching up against the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Turks and Caicos. 

    Akeyla Furbert gave Bermuda the lead in the 14th minute and doubled it when Shauntae Todd converted a penalty.

    St. Kitts-Nevis pulled back a goal in the 28th minute and the two teams went into the half-time break with Bermuda leading 2-1. 

    In the second half, Dominique Richardson gave the Bermudans their third goal while team St. Kitts-Nevis was unable to find the back of Bermuda’s net.

    Bermuda has now advanced to the final round, which will be held in Trinidad from August 17-27, 2014.

    In their first game, St. Kitts and Nevis defeated Cayman Islands 5-nil and Turks and Caicos 4-nil in their second. They needed just a draw against Bermuda in order to win the group, but with this loss had to play settle fiddle.

    This is the official qualification tournament in the Caribbean Zone for both the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup and the FIFA Women’s World Cup. 

    Eight teams will feature the four first round group winners - the two best overall second place teams from the Groups One, Three, Four and Five and host country Trinidad & Tobago.

    St. Kitts has finished with six points and is currently the best second placed team with two more groups slated to play later this month.
