Bandits strike Journalist’s home

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A home in New Road Housing was burglarised early Monday morning (May 26) and has left the occupants traumatised.

Speaking with this publication, popular broadcast journalist Andre Huie informed that at about 2:15 a.m., both he and his wife left their home bound for the Joseph N. France General Hospital with their daughter as she was not feeling well.

The WINNFM’s journalist said on their return they met their home ransacked and a young lady who resides there in tears.

“When we got back, there is a young lady who has been living with us for the last month and a half...we saw her crying and she told us that two men broke into the house. They stole my laptop, tablet and small items including a cell phone charger. The rooms were ransacked...ours in particular. They were looking for money and jewellery I understand. They also went into the fridge and took out some foodstuff and they left.”

Huie said the young lady was allegedly assaulted and the entire matter was reported to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and is currently under investigation.

The journalist made an appeal to persons who may have information about the incident and the perpetrators of it.

“I would appeal to anyone who knows anything to please go to the police and give them some information about the case, just to let them know. If you suspect someone, I wouldn’t advise anyone to approach them or ask them any questions, but report it to the police. Even if I don’t retrieve the things, someone was assaulted and it was a very evil and heinous thing to do to anyone...

“My appeal to those who are responsible for this crime, if you are reading, if you are hearing, turn yourself in because you will be caught. I am very confident that you will be caught and you will be punished, and you would make it easier for us if you would just turn yourselves in.”

Public Relations Officer for the Police Force Inspector Lyndon David confirmed that the incident was reported and that investigations are being made.
