Attempted murder, robbery, buggery cases for Appeal Court hearing

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ATTEMPTED murder, robbery and buggery are just a few of the cases expected to be heard at next week's sitting of the Court of Appeal. 

     

    The Appeal Court will be making its next stop in St. Kitts from June 10 to 18 to hear a number of High and Magistrate Criminal and Civil appeals. 

    Among the list of criminal cases is that of Glenville Isles who would be making an appeal against his attempted murder conviction.

    Isles was sentenced to 20 years hard labour on Dec 14, 2011 for shooting his ex-girlfriend in the wee hours of Tuesday, December 27, 2010.

    According to the evidence presented in Court, the then 41-year-old Isles shot his former girlfriend in the face and she was transported to the JNF Hospital, where she was treated for her injury.

    The unrepresented man however told the Court that he is innocent and was not at the scene of the crime.

    Also listed on the docket is Chadin Buchanan who would be appealing against a robbery conviction.

    On October 4, 2011 at the Basseterre High Court, a 12-membery jury unanimously found Buchanan guilty of the crime. He was said to have been armed with a firearm when he robbed Alexander Warner on November 27, 2010.

    The incident was said to have occurred around 10:00 p.m. at a shop belonging to Warner on Station Street, Sandy Point, where Buchanan robbed him of EC$200.

    Buchanan was sentenced to seven years in prison.

    Jermaul Jules, whose matter was adjourned from the last sitting, would be appealing his robbery conviction. He was convicted and sentenced by His Lordship Justice Errol Thomas to spend six years in prison for robbing a British tourist couple at Rawlins Plantation Inn on January 14, 2009. 

    A 12-member jury found Jules guilty on March 3, 2011 after it was proven to the Court that he did rob David Rogers and his wife.

    Evidence presented at the trial stated that at around midnight on the day in question, Jules had entered the room in which Rogers was staying at Rawlins Plantation Inn and, with a machete, threatened him and his wife leaving them traumatised. 

    He was successful in robbing them of EC$400 and a BlackBerry Smartphone.

    Also on the Appeal docket are a number of sexual cases including one man who would be appealing his sentence with regards to an unlawful carnal knowledge conviction. One would be appealing his buggery conviction while another would be appealing his rape conviction.
