Police vehicle involved in head-on collision; fuel truck overturns

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE will have to investigate a traffic accident that took place this afternoon (Jun. 5) involving one of their very own vehicles.

The head-on collision occurred at about 2:00 p.m. on Wellington Road between passenger bus H8501 and P2203 which is attached to the Special Services Unit (SSU) of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

Information reaching this publication suggests that H8501 was travelling in a westerly direction while P2203 was travelling in the opposite direction shortly before the incident occurred.

It is understood that the collision occurred after P2203 attempted to overtake an industrial vehicle that it was travelling behind.

The passenger bus contained at least two other individuals in addition to the driver, but as far as this publication is aware they were not injured.

It was observed however that one of the police officers was limping and holding on to one of his shins while another seemed to have been bleeding from the nose.

An Emergency Medical Services (EMS) unit was summoned to the scene to provide assistance.

Meanwhile, investigations are also being made into another traffic accident which occurred at the South East Peninsula.

SKNVibes was reliably informed that the accident involved a truck that was transporting diesel.

The truck – P9841 – was reportedly travelling towards Sand Bank Bay and, while going down Timothy Hill, the driver – Cleon Rey of Lime Kiln – lost control of the vehicle and it overturned.

Rey is said to have suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital via EMS, where he was treated and subsequently discharged.
