June 18th, 2014, Lace Up for Backpacks! Give Back. Give a Pack – Members and friends of SKNNA-DC rose early on Saturday, May 31s to walk 5 miles on the historic National Mall in Washington, DC. This year the annual charity walk aimed to raise funds/backpacks for less fortunate elementary school children on St. Kitts and Nevis. The backpacks will benefit children for the upcoming school year.
The Walk was welcomed with a beautiful spring morning and the motivated and united spirits of the members of SKNNA-DC. To kick this momentum into gear, Mrs. Tonisha Caines, provided a great warm up before the walkers started the 5 miler. Members of varied ages enthusiastically started….some walked…..some ran and all footsteps were felt on the National Mall. Mr. Joseph Bass biked and provided water refreshment for the walkers and, Dr. Gilbert Daniel again generously provided his time and medical expertise. After the 5 mile trek, walkers replenished with a feast of fruits, pastries and beverages courtesy of Tropical Fusion Caterers and members.
President Valda Morris thanked the SKNNA-DC Walk Team, Mr. Neville Mitcham and Ms. Kemoy Liburd-Chow, for organizing and implementing another successful charity walk. The President also extended warm words of gratitude to all the members and supporters of the Walk and encouraged them to order the backpacks online from the Walmart wish list at http://www.walmart.com/giftregistry/gr_detail.do?registryId=80501354081. Members were also reminded that donations will be accepted until July 31st.
.
The Embassy of St. Kitts and Nevis provided its usual collaborative levels of support to the Walk, which the Association remains appreciative of its ongoing productive relationship with the Embassy. Overall, the spirit of camaraderie was undoubtedly high and for a great cause, all great ingredients for a successful Walk!
