Two more youths gunned down in St. Kitts

The lifeless bodies of Akimba ‘Oil’ White and Casey Twells

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – LESS than 48 hours after the shooting death of Collin ‘Izum’ Matthew, the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has recorded its seventh homicide for the year when two young men were gunned down today in St. Johnston Village.

     

    Information reaching SKNVibes states that shortly after 1:00 p.m. today (Mar. 4), 19-year-old Akimba ‘Oil’ Whyte of Cardin Avenue, St. Johnston Village and Kwesi Twells of Manchester Avenue, Newtown were gunned down on Infirmary Road in St. Johnston Village.

     

    According to the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Cromwell Henry, Whyte and Twells were victims of a drive-by shooting incident.

     

    He said the two young men were in Rascotec Shop on Infirmary Road and shortly after they exited the premises, a vehicle drove up and the occupant(s) opened fire hitting them multiple times to their bodies.

     

    Henry also said that the men were pronounced dead by the District Medical Officer, Dr. Reginald O’Loughlin, who was summoned to the scene.

     

    On arrival at the crime scene, this media house saw the lifeless bodies sprawled on the road and one of them appeared to have been shot in the head, while the other bore wounds to the chest.

     

    Inspector Henry said that the police are appealing to persons who have information on this incident to contact the Criminal Investigation Department at telephone number 465-2241 extension 220, 230, 236 or the crime hotline at 707. He also stated that information could be given anonymously and would be kept in strict confidence.

     

    This has been the seventh homicide to have occurred in the Federation for the year. On Monday (Mar. 2) at approximately 5:20 p.m., Collin ‘Izum’ Matthew of East Street, Newtown died at the Joseph France General Hospital after he was earlier in the afternoon shot on Catherine Julius Street in Ponds Extension.

     

    Eighteen-year-old Jusan Kareem Raphael Hendricks, also known as Jusbo, of New Road and West Bourne Ghaut died at the JNF Hospital on Tuesday, February 23 after he was shot multiple times in Pub Magnum, a shop situated in Fort Thomas Road between Thibou and Fiennes Avenues, Basseterre.

     

    On Tuesday, January 20, Joseph ‘White Joe’ King (54) was stabbed in the vicinity of the Elite Laundry located on the Island’s Main Road, St. Johnston’s Village. He too was taken to the JNF Hospital where he died at approximately 2:55 p.m. on the following day.

     

    Eleven days earlier, 17-year-old Isimba Bradley, also known as Simba and Ratty, of Fiennes Avenue, Basseterre was shot by a masked man while walking with a friend in Central Street. He ran all the way from that area and succumbed to his injuries on the Bay Road.

     

    And on Friday, February 6, Shawn ‘X Man’ Williams of West Farm died at the JNF General Hospital after he was shot in Saddlers Village.

     

    Investigations into these homicides are ongoing.
