BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A unit from the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services was summoned to the Beach Allen Primary School yesterday (June 23) to deal with a fire that was reportedly set by one of the students.
According to Acting Fire Chief Everette O’Garro, shortly before 3:00 p.m. the Fire Department received and responded to a call, which led them to the Beach Allen Primary School.
There was no need for evacuation of classrooms as the source of the fire - a chair that was set ablaze - was discovered between two of the buildings on the compound. It was eventually extinguished by the officers.
O’Garro told SKNVibes that according to information his Department received, the fire was started by a young boy with the use of toilet paper, gasoline and matches.
Thankfully, there were no reported injuries resulting from this incident.
The Acting Fire Chief said the Department has passed on the suggestion that the child be enrolled in their annual Summer Safety Programme where children of primary school age are taught in theoretical and practical ways their roles in keeping themselves, their families, etc. safe.
They are also taught about the nature of fire, which when used incorrectly acts as a horrible master but a good servant when properly used.
