June 26th, 2014 -- Members and friends of the St. Kitts and Nevis Nationals Association, Washington, DC (SKNNA-DC) recently gathered to honor our Mothers and Fathers in grand Kittitian and Nevisian style and flair.
Our mothers were celebrated with a grand Mother’s Day dinner, happily served by men of SKNNA-DC, and then treated to a hat fashion fanfare. Adorned in hats of all sorts, many mothers proudly flaunted their fashions, including Ambassador Jacinth Henry-Martin and President Valda Morris.
As the evening progressed, winners for best hat, raffles and more were presented with gift baskets and flowers. The evening’s atmosphere was cheerful and ended with the President thanking the project leader, Ms. Pam Francis, and her team, along with all the persons who supported the event.
Fathers were equally honored with the Association’s annual Father’s Day breakfast with a feast of traditional foods such as saltfish and johnny cake, mackerel, fritters, potato pudding and much more. Bush tea and other beverages were also on the menu to delight the palette.
The breakfast received a tremendous turnout of nationals and friends, which lead to a very successful breakfast shared with ‘family’. The President extended deep appreciation to Mr. Vincent Hodge, who led the planning and implementation of this event, and of course to the nationals who attended the event.
