BASSETERRE, St. Kitts –- POPULAR taxi operator and owner of Big Banana Safari Tours, Michael Bridgewater has partnered with LIME St. Kitts to repaint three old phone booths in the Basseterre area.

Speaking with SKNVibes yesterday (Jun. 25), Bridgewater stated that it was his initiative to beautify certain parts of downtown Basseterre, adding that the antiquated phone booths are a tourists attraction similar to that of the United Kingdom.

“Well, it was just to help beautify the surroundings and make it a tourist attraction, because when the tourists come most of them look at that in awe and take a lot of pictures. The ideas that I come with are to help the tourism product to be much better.”

He explained that it was his idea to approach the communication giant for support to have the tourist attraction repainted and LIME gladly gave its support to have it done.

“I approached LIME and the market manager was very friendly. They gave me the paint and also a stipend to do the work. They also donated thinners, brushes and other paints for all of them. There are three of them…two in the Independence Square and one in The Circus.”

He pointed out that an initiative such as that would help to promote the Federation and, by extension, create benefits to the populace, especially with Lime being onboard.

Bridgewater told this publication that LIME, in its resuscitation drive, would be installing decorative phones in the booths and superimpose its brand on the glass sections.

“They are going to put back phones into them so people can take pictures. Those phones will be dummies. So I want the general public to get the understanding that the phones will not working…they are just going to be there like a monument.”

He was stern in his words to the general public that “anyone found damaging those monuments would be prosecuted”.

The taxi operator painted and replaced all the doors of the booths and had them welded on to the structures. He informed that he would take it upon himself to clean and maintain the monuments on a regular basis.

Bridgewater’s next project is to have the Circus repainted and is calling on business owners in St. Kitts to support this worthy cause, noting that they could contact him if they are interested in beautifying Basseterre.
