BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - POPULAR businessman and former radio talk show host Paul ‘Fergie’ Ferguson had his cellular phone taken away by a male police officer yesterday (June 25) while he was observing and photographing an incident that took place at the junction of Fort and Central Streets.
What had taken place is that the police had denied Team Unity permission to have the road blocked to accommodate the launch of their Campaign Headquarters at the top of Fort Street. And following the denial, a number of apparent Unity supporters took it upon themselves to block the road and divert traffic.
The scene attracted the attention of several individuals, including media operatives and Ferguson, and eventually police officers arrived in the area, among which some were armed.
Speaking with SKNVibes’ Editor-in-Chief, Ferguson indicated that he was observing and taking pictures with a cellular phone for posterity and also for the benefit of WINNFM, a local radio station to which he is associated.
Ferguson stated that while doing so, a police officer, who was at the scene talking to the civilians who were directing traffic, told him not to take his picture. However, when he was about to take a picture of the officer cautioning a male individual, the lawman approached him and snatched the phone from his hand.
According to one bystander, a female was also taking pictures of the scene “but the fat police officer did not take away her cell phone. He seems to have something against Fergie”.
SKNVibes however learnt that Ferguson had spoken to another security officer about the incident, who subsequently had a discussion with the officer in contention, and the phone was eventually returned to the businessman.
