School Meals Programme underway at St. John’s Primary

Mealtime at the St. John’s Primary School
By: Donovan Matthews, SKNVibes

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE School Meals Programme at the St. John’s Primary School got underway on Monday (Mar. 2), and Principal Adina Taylor says it is a welcome development.

Speaking to SKNVibes on Wednesday, Principal Taylor said the students are excited and the number participating had increased from 71 on Monday to 90 two days later. She said that this was out of a total of 115 students attending the school. The Principal also said the students are enjoying the meals as could be derived from the positive feedback they are giving the cooks.

Education Officer Averil Elliot was present when SKNVibes visited the school and said she was happy that the programme is underway since it is something the school has been looking forward to a long time. She believes it is good news for parents who, for a cost of $20 per week, now don’t have to worry about preparing daily lunches for their children.

According to Elliot, the programme is a good gesture by the Nevis Island Administration, and she hopes it grows from strength to strength. She explained that schools next on the list are Gingerland Primary and Charlestown Primary.

The programme follows a format of a four-week cycle with 20 menus.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Joseph Wiltshire was also present during lunchtime at St. John’s on Wednesday.
