A number of flags were placed in front of Government Headquarters on Church Street in 2004 to mark the 21st Independence celebrations.

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (September 5, 2005):
St. Kitts and Nevis 22nd Independence Anniversary programme officially begins September 10th and would be commemorated under the theme, On Track With the New Agenda for Growth and Empowerment.

Included in this years celebrations are the Independence Fun Run, the Embassy of Venezuela 10K Marathon, Ministers visit to schools, the Prime Ministers Independence Lecture Series, the Schools Patriotic Programmes and Treats, National Heroes Day and the Special Awards Announcement, the National Day of Prayer and State Service and the Independence Ceremonial Parade.

Also on the Programme are an Independence Tea Party and the Mothers Union Independence Breakfast.

According to an official of the Independence Celebration Coordinating Committee, this years ceremonial parade would be held on the grounds of the Basseterre High School. This comes as a result of the developments taking place in Warner Park, and at the moment it is the best alternate venue.

The official also disclosed that Kittitian-born Dr. Spencer Eugene Amory, who is now a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, would deliver the Prime Ministers Independence Lecture. Dr. Amory is also head of the general surgery section of the New York Presbyterian Hospital and Associate Chief for surgical education.

National Heroes Day would be commemorated with several community activities, and the State Service would be held at the Wesley Methodist Church.
