Sky Safaris up and running and offering excitement to thrill-seekers

By: VonDez Phipps, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – RECENTLY-LAUNCHED Sky Safaris has attracted hundreds to its unique zip-line sky tours as it offers thrilling rides hundreds of feet above the rainforest traversing the Wingfield River.

The project, jointly owned by Delisle Walwyn, Greg Safaris and Skyline Eco-Adventures is located just above Romney Manor and spans a wide section of the rainforest including the Wingfield River.

Those looking for an excursion of a different nature arrive at the base of the mountain on the plains of the old sugar ruins and may relax in the shade or grab a cold drink before embarking on the adventure.

In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, General Manager Crystal-Rayne Tomma said the first line, called the Monkey Trainer, is the shortest at 140 feet in length and allows guests to get familiar with the zip-line experience.

She said when they are comfortable with the trial line, they then take a seven-minute drive to a high point across from the flight centre where they test their love for excitement on the 1000-foot long Mango Tango line. This line gives a 60 kilometres per hour rush as guests take a flying tour over green foliage and observe the landscape from 250 feet above the river bed. Once safely landed, visitors cross to the third and final line Brimstone Blast which although is only 900 feet long, is much faster than the other two, giving an 80 kilometre per hour tour.

“Guests can look forward to an exhilarating zip-line experience through the rainforest as they would be open to panoramic aerial views of the landscape. There is a trolley with harnesses connected to the cable which makes it very comfortable for visitors to fly from one mountain to the other over the valley.

“All of our guides participated in a two-week training course which covered first aid training, education on all our equipment and procedures and interpretive training pertaining to the history of the area and the flora and fauna. We also stressed on safety features as the safety of our guests is important to us,” Tomma said.

The General Manager indicated that all the visitors have been “very ecstatic”, expressing their satisfaction with the comfort and safety provided during the tours. She added that the tour has received “nothing but positive feedback” from both locals and tourists.

Tomma said the full five-line experience would be launched in April to give a two and a half tour over the river. The price for the three-line tour is US $50; children under 14 are charged US $35 and a family of two adults and two children would receive a 15% discount.

The local rate is two guests for the price of one, a deal Tomma said will continue throughout the company’s operation.
