Basseterre, St. Kitts -- More than 200 delegates of young Methodists in the Caribbean and the Americas, clergy and friends will gather in Basseterre, St. Kitts, to attend the 5th Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas (MCCA) Youth Encuentro, to be held from Monday July 21 through Wednesday July 30, 2014. The MCCA Youth Encuentro is an exciting, spirit-filled, educational experience for young people, as they prepare themselves for leadership in the church and society. The theme for this year’s Encuentro is “Claiming our Generation for Christ”.
The mission for the Encuentro includes assisting young people to discover who they are in Christ, enabling them to actively participate in the mission of the church, while increasing awareness to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the heritage of the Methodist Church.
Highlights of the Encuentro, to which the public is invited include:
• The official opening service at the Wesley Methodist Chapel, Seaton Street Basseterre, on July 21, 2014 at 7:00 pm
• A colourful flag raising ceremony with the flags of attendees’ countries on Tuesday July 22nd at 10:15 am at the Wesley Methodist Church
• A cultural extravaganza at the ECCB Auditorium on Wednesday July 23, at 7:00 pm
• A spectacular march of witness through Basseterre accompanied by the Immanuel (Sandy Point) Methodist Church Band on Friday July 25, at 11:30 am and
• An Open Air service at the Sandy Point Hard Court on Sunday July 27, at 7:00 pm
As part of the activities for Encuentro, delegates will also be visiting the sister island of Nevis, and participating in mission activities on that island as well.
MCCA Youth Encuentro is a gathering of young people from all the districts including Guyana, South Caribbean, Leeward Islands, Haiti, Jamaica, Bahamas /Turks and Caicos Islands, Belize/Honduras and Panama/Costa Rica.
The umbrella organization for all youth groups, youth fellowships, youth choirs, and other youth organizations, at the Connexional level is the MCCA Youth. Through this organization the voice of the youth of the Church, will have a place at all levels of the Church's administration.
