2014 Stars of Tomorrow Performing Arts Camp Off To a Splashing Start!”

By: CDT, Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (July 22, 2014) - The Children’s Dance Theatre (CDT) in partnership with the Fireflies Dance School, Creative Sole Dance Company, Anjolique Dance Company, the CFBC Dance Ensemble and the Department of Marine Resources is delighted to kick off the “Stars of Tomorrow Performing Arts Camp: SeaVenture 2014.” This summer, the camp is sponsored by the UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme in an effort to promote the protection, preservation and appreciation of our marine environment.

The weeklong camp provides an enriching experience for the Federation’s youth to explore the importance of marine life, while honing their artistic abilities through dance performance, costume design, modeling, arts and craft and musical theatre. Campers will also visit the St. Kitts-Nevis Aquaculture Pilot Project and Environment Research (SNAPPER) salt-water fish farm in Conaree and will enjoy a thrilling Boat Cruise along St. Kitts’ coastline. SeaVenture 2014 will culminate with a grand recital and exhibition at which campers will share their knowledge of marine life through the performing arts.

“The Stars of Tomorrow Performing Arts Camp was born in 2004, out of the desire to fuel a passion of the performing arts in St. Kitts-Nevis,” Ozelle Martin, co-director said. “This year, thanks to Project Officer / Co-Director, Tricia Greaux who pitched the idea to CDT’s Director Julie Martin, we are excited to raise awareness about marine environment utilizing a powerful communication tool- the stage.  It is our hope that our campers are not only viewed as budding performing artists but also as advocates for our friends who reside under the sea.”
