Weather system could affect Caribbean over weekend

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A weather system which is slowly making its way through the Atlantic is being closely monitored by meteorologists and persons in the Caribbean are advised to keep an eye on it as it is predicted to develop over the next couple of days and possibly affect parts of the Caribbean.

According to the National Hurricane Centre (NHC), the “disturbance” is about 1400 miles to the east of the southern Windward Islands and at this point it remains well organized, however, it could develop into a tropical depression later today…”

Located at about 10N and 40W, the system is moving in a general westward or west-northwestward direction at about 15 miles per hour, and according to the St. Kitts Meteorological Office, model projections suggest that within the next day or two, it is expected to strengthen and develop, and sometime around Friday, it could possibly begin affecting the northern Leeward Islands.

The NHC informs that there is a 70 percent chance of the system developing over the next 48 hours.

The St. Kitts Meteorological Office has promised to keep the public informed as it tracks the progression of this system.
