BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – HUNDREDS of women from across St. Kitts attended the International Women’s Day forum held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and Royal Beach Casino on Sunday, March 8.

Organised by the local Winning with Women group, the forum was held under the theme “Women’s Voices Making a Difference”.

Women of varying demographics turned out for the discussion including former Parliamentarian Jacinth Henry-Martin, Director of Gender Affairs Ingrid Charles-Gumbs and students from the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC).

Several women’s groups, including the Netball Association, Breast Cancer Association and the Business and Professional Women’s Association, were also present.

The featured speaker was prominent Philadelphian businesswoman Agnes Ogletree. In keeping with the event’s theme, she encouraged the participants to come together despite their differences. She stressed that once women were united they could improve their lot in every aspect of their lives, such as business and politics.

The forum also featured success story testimonials from several women including Barrister-at-Law Rhonda Nisbett-Browne, CFBC student Asha DeSuza and breast cancer survivor Vancelyn Williams.

Lead Organiser Marcella Liburd stated that the objective of the programme was to bring women together to highlight and celebrate their achievements and talents. She deemed the forum “a success” and identified it as an initiative the group would consider doing more of in the future.

“The attendees were very complimentary and people left feeling inspired and enthused. The forum was about celebrating and uniting women. I think that was achieved here today.
