Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 16, 2014 (SKNIS): The Federation is preparing to host Information Communication Technology (ICT) Week 2014 from September 22-26.
The Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), in collaboration with the Organisation of American States (OAS) and the Government of St. Kitts will host a series of workshops for Technical officers in public and private sectors, as well as key members of the public. Sessions will be geared towards developing ICT development agendas that are current and relevant to the needs of the country.
The expected outcome of ICT Week is to facilitate the development of national policy, where none exists, or, if one does, encourage the critical examination of existing policy. This will enable key officials to identify gaps and weaknesses; review policy options based on the experiences of the Caribbean and leading practices. The disabled, elderly and youth are three areas being heavily focused on in this respect.
Cyber security and cyber incident response are two areas that are also being outlined as critical to ICT Policy development in the Caribbean. Training sessions during ICT Week will teach participants the basics of computer incident response and the theory of creating and establishing a Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT).
The OAS, with the financial support of the Government of Canada, has generously agreed to provide travel to St. Kitts for participants from OAS Member States to assist with their attendance.
