Ottleys Village, St.Kitts (TUCOM):- The people responded in their hundreds to the Listening Tour organized by Team Unity at the Ottleys Hard Court. The ambiance was ideal. A massive white tent was insufficient to seat the hundreds who responded. Hundreds lined the periphery and sides of the meeting. The atmosphere was more like a rally. The crowd was highly motivated.
Four powerful speakers brought the people’s issues to the fore. Hon Shawn Richards, Hon Eugene Hamilton, Hon Sam Condor and Dr the Hon Timothy Harris. The master of ceremonies was Douglas Wattley.
Dr Harris said that “his vision was to make St Kitts and Nevis the best place for our people to live.” He told the large and energetic crowd that “the country needs a better government. Team Unity’s plan is to move our people from Poverty to Prosperity. We have experienced too much hardship. Too many tears have been shed over the indignified existence of too many. Too many mothers cannot take care of their children. Too many children unable to find work. It is for these people and the rest of you that Team Unity exists”, the charismatic Leader noted “I know poverty and I will fight to eradicate it. I will fight to end injustice at the work place.”
Speakers addressed issues of the deplorable health situation in the country, Team Unity’s plans to introduce a National Health Insurance scheme, the repayment of moneys ($16 million) to former sugar workers, job creation, the health hazard at the Basseterre High School, the misrepresentation of the country’s reality by Douglas and his cabal etc. A lively question and answer session ensued . This gave the audience a chance to air their concerns and to get real-time responses to their concerns.
All in All last night’s Listening Tour was an outstanding success. It kept a massive crowd highly engaged and enthusiastic up until midnight. Team Unity will take its campaign to Sandy Point and Fig Tree with its next Listening Tour.
