Press Release

Tuesday, October 21, 2014 - The Service will take place at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College following a short procession at 3:00 p.m. of ex-service men and women, paramilitary organisations and bands along the road leading from the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College to the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium. All uniformed organisations and ex-service men and women are invited to participate.

In an effort to recognise all ex-service men and women in the Territory at the service, ex-servicemen and women are invited to register with the Deputy Governor’s Office by providing information on their time of service, branch of service, country served and any special medals received by Wednesday, November 5.  This can be done by telephoning the office at 468-2195.

August 4, 2014 marked the 100th Anniversary of the First World War, and throughout the United Kingdom, various activities have taken place and are being planned to commemorate this Centenary.

Locally, the Deputy Governor’s Office will be hosting a charity event entitled, “The Poppy Run,” where all proceeds will be in support of The Royal Legion’s Poppy Appeal.  The Poppy Appeal will begin on Saturday, October 25 and culminates on Saturday, November 15.

The Poppy Run will take place on Saturday, November 15, the culmination of the Poppy Appeal, beginning at 6:00 a.m. from the Central Administration Complex to the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School and back to the Central Administration Complex.  This fundraiser is open to children, adults and groups, including cyclists.

Registration forms can be obtained from the Deputy Governor’s Office, which is located in the West Wing of the Central Administration Complex on the third floor.

The public is invited to attend the Remembrance Day Service on November 9. They are also encouraged to take part in The Poppy Run on November 15.

Remembrance Day is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of World War I to remember the members of their armed forces who died in the line of duty.
