Wednesday, October 22, 2014 - A workshop designed to give unemployed young persons the requisite skills and exposure to gain employment as receptionists commenced yesterday, October 21.
The Ministry of Education and Culture through its Youth Employment Services (YES) Programme launched its “Face of the Organisation: Becoming an Effective Receptionist” workshop which is geared towards preparing young people for entry level positions in the Virgin Islands workforce.
The three day workshop will see participants receiving training in the intangible aspects of the office environment, the importance of first impression and their role in the organisation. The Facilitator is Director of BizContd Consulting Limited, Mrs. Judith Vanterpool.
During the opening ceremony, the Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V. Walwyn commended the participants for taking the initiative to be a part of this important training.
He said, “I am very proud of the number of participants we have here this morning. It says a lot about you, that you really do want to improve your skills and your circumstances. You want to be properly equipped and make a meaningful contribution to the development of this country.”
He noted that the Youth Employment Services was formed to assist unemployed youth in finding jobs and also pointed out that the objective of creating this series of workshops is to build capacity and skills so that prospective employees have something to offer.
The Minister gave the assurance that the ministry will continue to work in collaboration with the Labour Department to ensure that participants are employed. He said that a list of all participants will be submitted to the Labour Department to be considered when employment opportunities arise.
The Ministry of Education and Cultured through its Youth Employment Services (YES) Programme remains committed to preparing young people for a bright future of independence as it continues to create a culture of excellence.
