BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Charles E. Mills Secondary School CEMSS, yesterday (Nov. 5), made a donation to a past student and teacher to assist him with their medical expenses.

The donation was made to Patrick Williams who, a number of months ago, lost his leg during an accident.

Speaking with SKNVibes, Mr. Williams said the donation was made by the Parent Teachers Association as well as staff and students of the school.

“I was invited by the principal by the school to attend a handing over ceremony. The Parent Teachers Association and the staff and students of the school had raised some funds towards assisting me with my medical expenses and physical therapy expenses. So they handed over a cheque to me this morning during the assembly.”

He added that he took the opportunity to give a motivational speech to the students.

“The assembly was addressed by the President of the Parent Teachers Association as well as the Principal herself and then I gave the students a motivational speech to the students seeing that it was my alma mater and I taught there for eleven years.

He also gave an update on his condition.

“I lost my leg in a freak accident and I am going through some physical therapy and some rehabilitation in the sense of strengthening the leg and I am trying also to get a prosthetic leg.”

Williams also highlighted the importance of the funds in defraying some of his expenses.

“Every little bit counts…it will really, really assist. I am very thankful to my old school for taking the time and the effort. I am a little touched about it to see that people remembered my contribution.”

Williams then recalled his time at the then Sandy Point High School (SPHS) and some of his achievements.

“I attended the Sandy Point High School between 1970 and 1975.  I was first student of the school to obtain a full certificate in one sitting. I taught Geography there from 1977 to 1987, having gone to sixth from in the interim.  I also served as Games Master.

“Presently I am one of the liaison persons working with the New York based Sandy Point Benevolent Society.”
