Under the Theme: “Achieving Climate and Economic Resilience through Sustainable Energy”
CARICOM, in partnership NEVLEC, and the Nevis Island Administration, namely the Ministry of Communications, Works, Public Utilities, Post, Physical Planning, Natural Resources, and Environment, and the Ministry of Education, is celebrating Energy Week from November 16th thru 22nd. The week was officially opened by Hon. Alexis Jeffers, Minster, who has oversight authority for the Ministry of Public Utilities. However, the activities will actually stretch beyond one week, giving school children and adults opportunities to learn more about energy conservation and ways to incorporate alternate sources of renewable energy into their daily lives; contribute to the preservation of Mother Earth; while simultaneously winning several prizes from participating in exciting competitions.
For example, there is a Facebook “Best Photo” contest, a Quiz competition, and an Essay Contest. The Quiz and Essay are targeting the Primary and Secondary schools, while the Quiz is opened to the entire Nevisian Public. Prizes include Digital Cameras, 7” Android Tablets, 10” Android Tablets, and Cash.
Other activities include Presentations at all schools on Nevis, Radio Talks Shows, TV Interviews, and an Open Day which is slated for Friday November 28th, downtown, at the D. R. Walwyn Square from 9 am – 5 pm. The Expo will have a DJ, lots of Give-Aways, interactive discussions, and there will be Companies showcasing energy saving products and solutions.
