In 2013 at the historic launch of Team UNITY it was declared that the new Team UNITY government will remove VAT from ALL Food, Medicine, Educational Supplies and Funeral Expenses. This announcement was met with much criticism by the illegitimate Dr. Denzil Douglas government. AFTER months of declaring to the nation that even a reduction in the VAT was not possible Dr. Denzil Douglas has now, on the verge of his political demise, belatedly announced a reduction in the Value Added Tax on SOME food items, medicine and school supplies.
The illegal government of Denzil Douglas has once again plagiarized parts of the enlightened and visionary policies contained in the PROSPERITY AGENDA of Team UNITY. We ask Dr Douglas what took you so long to hear the cries of the people. It's time you follow the lead of TEAM UNITY and start listening to the people.
The government argued for months that the economy could not afford the reduction we have been advocating.
The decision by the government proves our position right. It also shows that Team Unity has the economic vision that even the St.Kitts-Nevis Denzil Douglas led Labour/NRP coalition is now forced to grudgingly follow. It proves that our cause which is the peoples cause is right. We will not stop until the people of SKN achieve PROSPERITY for ALL in their families.
However it took a pending election -- and with defeat staring it in their face -- for the Douglas administration to finally give the ordinary people the tax break that Team Unity has consistently championed. We understand that he'd rather the people pay for his bad policies no matter the hardship caused to the people.
We are however yet to be convinced about the long-term commitment of this government to provide the relief necessary for the poor and disadvantaged. We cannot trust him to do the right thing for the people. We cannot trust him to keep his word. We cannot trust him to keep his promises.
Team UNITY understands that tax relief is an important component of the comprehensive jobs and economic turnaround plan that will put the people of SKN on the road to prosperity. The people will not be fooled by the election season trickery of the Douglas administration.
Team Unity understands Its Time to unveil its comprehensive plan that will encourage the manufacturing sector, create more opportunities for the youth and grow the economy. A plan that will include the REMOVAL of VAT from ALL Food, Medicine, Educational Supplies and Funeral Expenses.
The vision we will espouse will be a plan to take this country out of this prolonged period of high crime, high unemployment, high debt and low growth. It's time.
Dr Douglas cannot be trusted. This country’s past experiences with $500 rebate on Electricity followed by a crippling fuel surcharge And a promise to close the Sugar Industry over his dead body followed by the closure of the industry just months later has proven that he is not trustworthy .
Our people are excited about the better days to come with a visionary PROSPERITY AGENDA. It's time for job creation, making our neighborhoods safer, TOTAL VAT relief on Food, Medicine, Educational Supplies and Funeral expenses, bringing in new technology for our island, small business growth, free preschool funding, ensuring the peoples land is in the peoples hand. These initiatives will bring PROSPERITY TO ALL under a Historic Team UNITY Government.
