Calvin Roberts’ body being place in a hearse

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - LESS than 24 hours into the New Year and De Village community has been thrust into a state of mourning after one of its residents was discovered hanging in his home.

The deceased name was given as Calvin Roberts, also known as Calvin Jeffers, of Trafalgar Village.

On arrival at the scene, SKNVibes had found members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, including Commissioner of Police Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn, securing the area and conducting investigations.

Speaking with SKNVibes, Commissioner Walwyn indicated that the deceased might have committed suicide.

“I got a call at about 11:00 saying it was an apparent suicide of a young man…We are checking on some other things but, initially, there is nothing out of the ordinary to suggest otherwise.”

He said additional information would be disseminated once an update would have been provided by the Criminal Investigations Department.

Roberts was a part-time fisherman and was the brother of former Commissioner of Police Robert Jeffers, who also visited the scene having received the sad news.

After being pronounced dead by Dr. Reginald O’Loughlin, Roberts’ remains were removed from the house by undertakers of Jenkins Funeral Home.

At intervals before and during the time that the body was being removed, wailing could be heard from several individuals, one of whom SKNVibes understands is the deceased’s son.

As the body was placed in the hearse, the individual identified as Roberts’ son was bawling at the loss of his father while being consoled by another individual.

The Commissioner told SKNVibes that investigations are ongoing, but it has been determined that robbery did not play any part in the incident, especially since money and other valuables were still in the house.
