BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AFTER wanting more revelry following the Last Lap Jam, revellers in St. Kitts and Nevis on Saturday (Jan. 3) sought another opportunity to take a final jump-up as the Carnival Committee hosted the second Bar Crawl of Sugar Mas 43.
Shortly after 10:00 a.m., a crowd started to gather at Port Zante in anticipation of the Bar Crawl, but they were however disappointed as there were not enough trucks and other modes of transportation on hand to accommodate many of them.
With a shortage of vehicles and a delay in the arrival of those providing music, the motorcade got off to almost a four-hour late start with some patrons being left behind, unable to hitch a ride on a truck or with any other transportation in the Bar Crawl.
Heading east and led by the Road March Champions, Small Axe Band, with five trucks, the party bus, Real Right Entertainment and DJ Ronnie Rascal, the precession of over 25 vehicles made it first stop in Conaree, where revellers partied in the streets for about 15 minutes before continuing to the next stop.
The procession then made its way to Cayon, where a stop was made outside Maynard’s Park and the Grand Masters Band took over the reins and rocked the revellers for approximately 30 minutes. At that stage, a second large bus joined the procession before moving on to the next village.
Though not making actual stops in some villages, the demand for Small Axe Band led to a slow moving motorcade which resulted in traffic being backed-up for miles between Cayon and Dieppe Bay.
A stop was also made in St. Paul’s, where Kollision Band had been rocking the crowd with some of their hits of Sugar Mas 43.
The next stop was made in Sandy Point, where residents of that community came out in their numbers and jammed with the Small Axe Band, some reaching as far as Godwin Ghaut behind the Road March Champions.
The procession continued it journey on the Island’s Main Road, causing serious traffic jams with some drivers taking more than hours to get from Sandy Point to Basseterre.
The Bar Crawl however culminated in Old Road and this move had allowed for the return of a smooth flow of traffic on the Island’s Main Road.
