C & C Superfoods responds to inaccuracies in Consumer Affairs Flier

Scott Caines Managing Director C&C Group of Companies
Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts - The attention of C&C Superfoods has been drawn to a flier purportedly prepared and distributed by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs at its Consumer Day activity in Independence Square on Friday 20th March.

The flier whilst attempting to provide consumers with an at-a-glance costing of items in the recently established food basket, turned out to be poorly analyzed and consequently was filled with a number of inaccuracies.  In particular, management was surprised that although about 5 items listed under a column labeled C&C were the lowest of the supermarkets surveyed, these items were still highlighted as the most expensive.

“Whilst we understand the Ministry’s mission as a “watch dog” for consumers, we believe it is equally important that information circulated for public consumption is accurate,” said General Manager of C&C Superfoods, Mr. Keith Evelyn.  “We are very concerned that because of the many errors in the flier, we could be perceived as the least attractive among the other businesses surveyed all because of the error in the analysis.  If the consumer is going to rely on information from this Department, then they must get it right.  There should be no room for errors at all,” he concluded.

Ever striving to bring real value to its customers, C&C Superfoods introduced its Super Low programmes over two years ago, where dozens of items are marked down below cost and promoted to customers on the weekend.  This would have resulted in significant savings to patrons over the last several months.

C&C Super Foods will continue to cooperate fully with the Ministry, understanding that it is a stakeholder in the business of consumer awareness.
