BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE valiant and selfless efforts of the three men who rescued Daniel ‘Satellite’ Ottley from his burning home are highly commendable; however, that was not enough to make him see another sunrise, for he lost the fight for his life early yesterday (Mar. 24) morning.

The 62-year-old, according to reports, was in his Newtown Ground wooden house on Monday (Mar. 23) afternoon when it became engulfed in flames.

Investigations made by SKNVibes revealed that three good Samaritans (risked life and limb) went into the burning structure and removed the injured man.

Alphonso ‘Gollo’ Parris, in an exclusive interview with this media house, explained that he was in the area when someone informed him that “Satellite’s house is burning”.

The man said he rushed to the house with two other individuals, went into the structure and removed the victim who had what appeared to be severe burns on the upper part of his body.

Ottley, according to reports, was bleeding from his mouth while the three men worked frantically gathering water with which to sooth his burns and quench any flames which may have still been on his clothing.

This media house understands that a unit from the Emergency Medical Services was dispatched to the scene and Ottley was taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment.

Information received from the Sandy Point Fire Department indicated that a call was received at about 3:53 on Monday afternoon to which a unit responded. Upon arrival, the unit found the house engulfed in flames but the firemen won the hard-fought battle.

Fire Sub Station Officer (FSSO) Clarence Hendrickson, Head of the Fire Prevention Office, told SKNVibes that according to the information he received, Ottley succumbed to his injuries during the early hours of Tuesday (Mar. 24).

The cause of the fire is yet to be officially ascertained.
