BASSETERRE St. Kitts, January 14th, 2015 -- I want to offer my sincere condolences to the people of France on the recent terror attacks. It is unfortunately that such hatred, maliciousness and divisiveness has raised its ugly head at a time when the world is crying out for tolerance and unity.
We continue to pray for the families of victims and for the entire country. We continue to pray for the leaders of France, and hope that they will show the world what a unified mind and a unified spirit can accomplish.
Words cannot express the sincere empathy felt on the loss of your fellow citizens; but we hope that they offer some comfort. We were not able to make the march but we are there with you in spirit.
On Monday, January 19, the world will celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He stated many years ago that Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Team UNITY in St. Kitts and Nevis stands with your UNITY efforts. In UNITY much is possible. Healing is possible. Paving a way forward that moves all people is possible. Reconciliation is possible.
We likewise condemn the attacks in Baga, Nigeria and surrounding towns, where as many as 2000 are feared killed. Such actions, and any that bring any form of harm to citizens are diametrically opposed to the concept of Unity. Team Unity extend condolences to the families and to the Country; and to all of its citizens worldwide. We likewise stand with those in Nigeria who believe in the principles of inclusion, oneness and unity of people and purpose.
As leaders our goal is to promote a just society. Our goal is to promote a free society. We must continue to fight for a free and just society. We must continue to fight against intimidation and manipulation at the hands of anyone including terrorists.
In the end freedom will be victorious. Fear and intimidation is temporary. Love, Justice, fairness, equality, transparency, and openness is eternal.
