Basseterre, St.Kitts (TUCOM-January 19th) -- The St.Kitts-Nevis Alliance Team UNITY continued their “Year of CHANGE 2015” campaign with a mammoth Public Meeting in the rural Inner City of Molyneux in the constituency of Team Unity's Leader, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.
An estimated crowd of well over 3000 packed the main street in Molyneux in the first meeting since the Friday Jan 16th Emergency Parliament and Boundary Change debacle. Citizens came out in huge numbers and expressed their obvious displeasure with what was taking place in the country with regard to governance and the stifling and trampling of democracy by the illegitimate Prime Minister Douglas and his accomplices the Governor General and the Speaker of the House.
It was clear from the turnout at the massive meeting that the country has had enough of Dr. Douglas and his shenanigans.
Speaker after Speaker pounded home the fact that the time has come for democracy and good governance to reign in the federation.
Team UNITY Candidates Jonel Powell, Lindsay Grant, Hon. Eugene Hamilton, Hon. Sam Condor all gave relatively brief presentations. Each highlighted the travesty that took place in the National Assembly just 2 days before. One of the highlights of the evening was the fiery yet poignant presentation by Hon. Troy Liburd of the CCM and Junior Minister in the Nevis Island Administration. Liburd reiterated his party’s and the island of Nevis’ commitment to UNITY.
The meeting concluded on a very high note with an informative and spirited presentation by the Leader Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris. Harris reiterated his Team UNITY’s commitment to the removal of VAT from Food, Medicine and Educational Supplies as well the construction of a new Basseterre High School as well as the construction of new or the enhancement and upgrade of sporting facilities for Basketball, Netball , Volleyball among others.
Dr Harris lamented the lack of attention and recognition and support given to local artistes including the likes of Hi-Light, Infamus, Nicha B, Lady Diva, NuVybes, Small Axe and others. Team UNITY has committed to recognizing and supporting top local sports personalities and entertainment and cultural practitioners by appointing them as Cultural Envoys and Sports and Entertainment Ambassadors.
Dr. Harris also declared that a Team UNITY government will for the first time in our country’s history be a government truly of all people.
Dr Harris said “ A team Unity government would be a government of all people be they Labour, Pam, PLP, CCM, NRP or of no affiliation . I call on the people to give the Team UNITY candidates a chance to serve the country humbly and competently.”
Team UNITY’s next stop will be in Dieppe Bay for the launch of the Candidate there.
