Is this man Mr. V?

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FROM all accounts, tomorrow night (Jan. 22) is the big night when, once and for all, the people of Constituency Number Six would find out who will be the alternative to the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party’s (SKNLP) candidate, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas.

While the official announcement has yet to be made, SKNVibes is not certain that the identity of the individual is as big a “secret” that has been suggested.

In an article published by this media house only yesterday (Jan. 21), it was explained that the representative for Team Unity is likely to be either a man identified as ‘Mr. V’ or another man who hails from the St. Paul’s area.

Yes, the nation would have to wait until tomorrow evening for the official announcement to be made. But sources close to SKNVibes have indicated that ‘Mr. V’ would be Team Unity’s Constituency Number Six representative.

As for his identity, SKNVibes understands that ‘Mr. V’ is Vernon Connor of Dieppe Bay. It seems befitting that his launch would take place in his hometown. Of course, notwithstanding that SKNVibes has received this information from reliable sources, tomorrow evening’s Unity public meeting will declare all.

Mr. V has a difficult and, no doubt, daunting task, and that is to make an attempt to unseat Prime Minister Douglas who, as history has shown, has never lost his seat; and to add to that, the seat has never been won by anyone other than a SKNLP candidate.

In interviews with this media house and while on their political platform, Team Unity representatives appear all-too-confident that they would be able to rip the seat from Dr. Douglas’ clutch, but the future holds many secrets that only time can reveal.

The Prime Minister held his monthly press conference today and when asked about the launch of his opponent, he appeared to be unaware of who it is. He said he does not know who the person is nor has he seen a poster and, therefore, as least in his eyes, the Unity candidate for Constituency Number Six “remains a non-entity”.

Dr. Douglas’ words and body language suggested that he is by no means concerned about this development and appears confident that the seat, as has been the case since 1989, would be his.

With Team Unity waiting until now, just moments before the proverbial clock strikes 12:00, to release their Number Six candidate, one wonders just how much momentum Mr. V. would be able to gain before the elections which would be held in the coming weeks.

Can he put a significant dent in Dr. Douglas’ campaign that the sounds of his rapidly-beating heart and knees knocking against each other could be heard all across the Federation? Or would Dr. Douglas once again prove his dominance and send Mr. V. seriously considering keeping his hat on his head rather than throwing it into the political bullring again?

Team Unity candidates have indicated time and again that Mr. V. has already begun the work in Number Six and they, just like Dr. Douglas, appear confident of victory.

Both sides talk a convincing game regardless of what concerns might be ventilated behind closed doors.
