BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE 12 Sandy Pointers who were recently arrested and charged with gun possession are expected to stand trial shortly and could face a maximum penalty of 20 years at Her Majesty’s Prison.

The group, which consists of five juveniles along with Ashorne ‘Nash’ Daniel, Hash ‘AK’ Hodge, Roland ‘Ghetto’ Marryshaw, Kelvin ‘Kelly’ Wilkin, Denzil ‘Bongo’ Williams, Orville ‘Depo’ Benjamin and Chris ‘Piggy’ Warner, was arrested and charged following an incident where a vehicle in which they were travelling was stopped, searched and a firearm found.

A police press release informed, “During routine stop and search operations on Sunday 22nd March 2009 in Newton Ground, the police searched motor van PA 2441 which was driven by Orville Benjamin of Sandy Point, for illegal drugs, firearm and ammunition. One Mac 11 automatic pistol and thirty one (31) rounds of 9mm ammunition were found in the said vehicle. The occupants of the van...were arrested and charged for possession of the firearm and for possession of the rounds of ammunition.”

Each was charged with “illegal possession of a firearm” and “illegal possession of ammunition”. According to a subsequent press release issued by the Police Force’s Press and Public Relations Office, the juveniles were granted bail but the adults were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison where they await the arrival of their trial date.

SKNVibes has been reliably informed that the trial date for the 12 individuals is Friday, March 27 and, if found guilty, the men could face somewhere between five and 10 years imprisonment on each count.

The police are reporting that, “This latest recovery brings the total number of illegal firearms recovered for 2009 to 11, along with over 450 rounds of ammunition.”
