CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE name of the man who was gunned down last evening (Jan. 29) in Nevis was given as Javan Bartlette of Bath Village, according to the police.
Information reaching this publication from the police stated that Bartlette was attacked by two masked gunmen in the yard of Kevin Chapman's Bakery in Bath Village.
SKNVibes was told that on realising he was in danger, the former Four Seasons Resort's employee tried to evade the gunmen by running to the rear of the business premises, but fell and was killed in the process.
According to the Police Press and Public Relation Officer, Inspector Lyndon David, the incident occurred at about 7:00 p.m. and the police are seeking the public’s assistance in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
He also stated that one person is in custody assisting police with their investigation.
“Anyone with information on this matter is asked to call the Charlestown Police Station at 469-5391 or the nearest police station, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477(TIPS). Remember, you do not have to provide your personal information and you may be eligible to receive a reward,” the PRO urged.
Bartlette’s death has taken the number of murders committed in the Federation for the year to four; two on each island.
The first murder was committed on Nevis when, on Friday (Jan. 9), popular passenger-bus driver 31-year-old Devon ‘Kobe’ Griffin was shot multiple times in the vicinity of his Rawlins Village home.
The second murder was that of 54-year-old Elroy Malone of Willett’s Housing Project, who went missing on January 3 and whose body was discovered 10 days after in an area in Willett’s Village known as Amsterdam Ghaut.
And the third victim was 53-year-old Basil Alfred Phipps of Saddler’s Village whose partly decomposed body was found on Monday (Jan. 19) among some tall grass in Wharton’s Hill (White Gate area).
Since then, Gavin Browne of Willet’s Housing Project in St. Paul’s was arrested and charged with Phipps’ murder.
