Basseterre, St. Kitts, Wed., February 4, 2015: Coalition leaders of the Unity Team opposes the corruption, crime and violence, discriminatory practices, trumping of the rights of the people, citing these ills as the order of the day of the Denzil Douglas administration.
The Honourable Shawn Richards of Constituency #5 representing Peoples Action Movement (PAM),have outlined the corruption calling it a “national crisis” relating a double shooting that resulted in a murder that happened 100 meters from his home as he was preparing for tonight’s meeting. Mr. Richards reiterated the charge that outgoing Prime Minister, Denzil Douglas,is a danger to the development of the country of St. Kitts and Nevis.In a recent broadcast in the very area where tonight’s murder occurred, Minister Douglas’ comments are said to have incited the violence that occurred tonight.
Constituency leaders charged the people to rebuild the dream calling the country’s condition the “death of democracy” for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. Instead, the TeamUnity coalition endorses the principles of honesty and integrity, accountability and good democratic governance.
A national debt of 3 Billion for St. Kitts and Nevis is said to have been amassed by Prime Minister Denzil Douglas. He is said to have sold the people’s land to pay off the national debt. Opposition leaders charged the people to take back their land calling it “raping of the land” by investing in developments in other areasthat have not benefitted the local population.
Medicaladvancements, opportunities for youth populations, economic and educational advancements, sports facilities, policies that will provide sustainability, empowering the people by providing quality of life improvements,are some of the advancements being planned by Mr. Eugene Hamilton, # 8 Constituency leader.
Team Unity embraces the CARICOM nationals, citing lies that have been told to the people and touted as divisivetactics.
Dr. Timothy Harris, the next Prime Minister of the Federation, summarized the evening’s speeches, endorsed the candidates and thanked the people for their support.
Dr. Harris rallied the people to chart a new path of development and democracy for St. Kitts and Nevis saying “this is a critical time to make the right choice.” He added that Dr. Douglas has betrayed the trust of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis calling his administration “a travesty” and ending on the note that “we’re making history for all the citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis.”
