With the historic cross-fertilization of political parties and ideas, Team Unity is uniquely positioned to usher in a new brand of politics to our shores – Kenrick W. Clifton.
As a son of the soil and having served as Permanent Secretary in the government of St. Kitts and Nevis and now as an elected official in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, I have had to make choices for positive and constructive change.
Each day we make choices in our lives. Each choice we make is predicated on the value system we have selected to govern our lives.
On February 16, 2015, our citizens will be, in a very real way, making the most important choice they will ever make regarding our nation’s future.
Those who believe that mankind are all of a family and that the most acceptable service of God is doing good fortheir fellowmen may make choices different from those who benefit from greed and cronyism.
Those who believe in the high ideals of a nation and subscribe to the morals and values we share as a community may choose differently from those who believe that the end justifies the means no matter how shameful and reprehensible.
The people of St. Kitts and Nevis must choose between looking to the past and accepting the same old politics of pain and division and that of reaching for the future where citizens are united and better together.
Today, the nation of St. Kitts and Nevis and the land of my birth stands at the crossroads. We are poised at a threshold of a new era.
Never before has the future of our nation been besieged by so much uncertainty while at the same time has held such untold promise.
Our nation has tremendous untapped potential and a promising future. But we must seize the moment.
Our nation is hemorrhaging. We need the right leadership to move the nation in the right direction now at the right time.
It is my considered view that Team Unity holds itself ready, willing and able to provide that leadership.
The rulingDouglas Labour Party has been in power for a generation and it is time for a change.We have all shed collective tears for our country and have come to the realization that change is not only necessary but imperative. The transgressions of the Douglas and his Labour Party are too many to list but a samplingtells the tale:
• Prime Minister Denzil Douglas and his government have violated and disrespected the Constitution which is the supreme law of the land;
• Under Douglas’ leadership, St. Kitts and Nevis now has the dubious distinction of being one of the most murderous island-states in the world as crime spirals out of control;
• The Douglas make-belief of economic buoyancy is an attempt to perpetuate a fraud on our citizens while family and friends enjoy a life of luxury at the expense of the poor;
• The arbitrary and indiscriminate selling of our passports to questionable and nefarious international characters has brought shame and disgrace to our country and rebuke from the United States and Canada;
• Douglas has ensured a safe passage to family and friends and has taken the art of nepotism and cronyism to an unprecedented level;
• In violation of the Constitution, Douglas has colluded with the Speaker of the House and for over two years refused to table a Motion of No Confidence (MONC) filed against his government;
• The abuse of State radio and television in violation of the law reflects a one-party state mindset;
• The scathing attack on the judiciary by Douglas’ cabinet members is an attempt to undermine judges and the legitimacy and authority of the judiciary;
• The abuse of public office and the misuse of State-owned assets and resources borders on criminality;
• The Basseterre High School fiasco is a reflection of the callous indifference of Douglas and his cabinet members as it pertains to the health and safety of our young men and women;
• The corruption and decimation of the electoral system and processes is a breach of the fundamental rights and freedom of citizens;
• Today, our citizens are more divided than ever before in the history of the country.
The country is woefully off course and off-track and desperately in need of new leadership and a new direction. Team Unity with its remarkable and distinctive blend of experience, youth and dynamism is ready and poised to provide that change.
With the historic cross-fertilization of political parties and ideas, Team Unity is uniquely positioned to usher in a new brand of politics to our shores. A politics that adheres to the rule of law, that is adamant against victimization and one that is committed to utilize all the human resources at its disposal irrespective of political persuasion.
How can a developing country not stand to benefit from the experience and knowledge of a Dr. Timothy Harris; the level-headedness and wisdom of a Premier Vance Amory; the likability and patriotism of a Sam Condor; the success story of a humble Shawn Richards; the brilliance and charisma of a Mark Brantley; and the resilience of a Lindsay Grant just to name a few?
Imagine a St. Kitts and Nevis with these proven and tested leaders at the helm charting the course for a prosperous nation. Irrespective of your political belief, I ask you to please consider these men who are committed to working together for a better nation.
The stakes have never been higher and, by contrast, our people cannot place their hopes, dreams and aspirations on a wannabe dictator propped up by mediocre and untested amateurs.
And now I conclude where I started. Life is about choices and on February 16th, you have a chance to make a choice. I urge you my fellow nationals to choose a team that will be relentless and tireless in uniting our country and bringing prosperity to ALL our people.
I respectfully ask you to vote for the candidates of Team Unity.
