Team Unity victory celebrations continue in St. Kitts

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TEAM UNITY continued to celebrate its victory in the recently-held General Elections with a motorcade of hundreds of vehicles and thousands of people driving around the island of St. Kitts yesterday (Feb. 21).

The motorcade started yesterday afternoon from the War Memorial on the Bay Road in Basseterre with the deafening sounds of individuals blowing horns and whistles, the tooting of vehicles’ horns and music from the Kollision and Small Axe Bands as well a Hi-Fi system with DJ Cool.

It ended late into the night on the Bay Road in the vicinity of RAM’S Supermarket.

Reportedly, many supporters in various Constituencies were unable to be in the motorcade because of the lack of available vehicles and had to settle for cheering and waving flags from sidewalks and outside their homes as the large procession passed their way.

An official told SKNVibes that it was Team Unity’s intention to accommodate all of its supporters and also all others who would have wanted to join in the celebration, but all vehicles from the various rental agencies in St. Kitts were already booked.

This media house had observed that all of the vehicles were filled to capacity and many people were seen in the trunks of most cars.

It was also observed that yesterday’s motorcade was much larger than the one held in Nevis on Wednesday (Feb. 18), which had seen a very large turnout with supporters from St. Kitts travelling across The Narrows to join with their brothers and sister of the Concerned Citizens Movement.

A celebratory motorcade had also preceded yesterday’s. It was held on Friday evening (Feb. 20) by Ian ‘Patches’ Liburd who had unseated Dr. Asim Martin in Constituency Number One by a mere four votes.

Meanwhile, all roads lead to the Warner Park Cricket Stadium in Basseterre this afternoon to witness the swearing in of Ministers for the Government of National Unity led by Dr. the Hon. Timothy Sylvester Harris, who was sworn in as Prime Minister along with Senator Vincent Fitzgerald Byron Jr. as Attorney-General on Wednesday (Feb 18).

The Swearing In Ceremony is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.

Team Unity had won seven of the 11 seats in the February 16, 2015 General Elections.

The seven seats won are: Constituency One by the People’s Action Movement’s (PAM) Ian ‘Patches’ Liburd, Lindsay Grant of PAM in Constituency Four, PAM’s Shawn Richards in Constituency Five, Dr. Timothy Harris of the People’s Labour Party in Constituency Seven, PAM’s Eugene Hamilton in Constituency Eight, Mark Brantley of the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) in Constituency Nine, and Premier Vance Amory of the CCM in Constituency 10.
